Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses

The Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses (MARM) is the state’s affiliate organization for the American Nurses Association (ANA).

The organization brings together nurses and other health care groups to share and explore common interests. It influences legislation and public policy in MA to promote and protect nursing, nurses, and patients. They also promote the advancement of nursing practice through continuing education and the professional development of registered nurses.

They state as their mission:

“Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses (MARN) is committed to the advancement of the profession of nursing and of quality patient care across the Commonwealth.”

MARM Membership

By joining MARM, you also join the American Nurses Association. In fact, enrolling as a member of MARN is typically done on the ANA web site although you can also register via mail.

Dues include MARM dues and ANA dues. There are several different dues options for members of the organizations. Of course, there are those who pay full member dues. But there are also reduced member dues for full-time students, new graduates from nursing school, unemployed RNs, and RNs over 62 in age and retired (but not earning more than Social Security allows). There are also special member dues for disabled RNs and unemployed RNs over 62 years of age. Nurses who have been a member of the ANA for 40 years are considered honorary MARM members and the MARM portion of the dues are waived.

There are many benefits of being a member of MARM. Aside from all of the networking opportunities with other nurses in all areas of practice, there are many opportunities to develop leadership skills by serving as an officer, a delegate, or on committees.

Members gain access to the MARN Career Center for job hunting. They also receive all benefits of being an ANA member including but not limited to:

  • Discounts on ANCC certification and recertification exams
  • Free subscription to The American Nurse publication
  • Discounts from all types of merchants offering a variety of products and services including computers, travel, auto insurance, professional liability insurance, scrubs, and more
  • Free and discounted continuing education
