Seattle University
College of Nursing

Seattle University’s College of Nursing offers a nationally accredited Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program. The program was designed to prepare graduates for the most advanced level of practice. Seattle University offers an MSN to DNP pathway.

The program requires students to complete 40 to 60 quarter credit hours and 500 clinical hourse. Up to 15 credit hours can be used from the student’s MSN course work if taken in the last 6 years.

Applicants must hold a Master of Science in Nursing from an CCNE or NLNAC accredited program at an accredited college or university. They must have an unencumbered license as a registered nurse. It is preferred that prospective students be certified or be eligible for certification in an advanced practice nursing specialty.

University of Washington
School of Nursing

The University of Washington’s School of Nursing offers two pathways to a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. They offer a post-baccalaureate pathway and an MSN to DNP pathway.

The UW DNP program offers many specializations:

  • Community Health Nursing – Occupational and Environmental Health

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Those entering the post-baccalaureate program must possess either:

  • a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a CCNE or NLN accredited program OR
  • an Associate degree or diploma from an accredited Registered Nurse program, and a baccalaureate degree in a non-nursing field

Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. They must also have an unencumbered US license as a Registered Nurse. The GRE is not required.

There are two options offered under the MSN to DNP pathway. Both of these options are focused on preparing students for advanced practice nursing. Preparation as a nurse educator does not count as an advanced practice specialization, though students can obtain a Nurse Educator Graduate Certificate as part of their DNP program.

The two options within the MSN to DNP pathway are:

  • MSN to DNP Not Seeking a New Specialty
  • MSN to DNP Seeking a New Specialty

The MSN to DNP Not Seeking a New Specialty program is only available to those applicants whose MSN included an advanced practice specialization (i.e. those elible or certified in an advanced practice area).

The MSN to DNP Seeking a New Specialty program is open to those holding a Master of Science in Nursing degree without an advanced practice specialization OR those with already prepared in an advanced practice area wanting to add another specialization.

Applicants to the MSN to DNP program must possess a Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program. They must have a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale. They must have an unencumbered US license as a Registered Nurse.
