Baylor University
Louise Herrington School of Nursing

Baylor’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing offers a Nurse-Midwifery (NM) Doctor of Nursing Practice program with two entry options: a BSN to Nurse Midwifery DNP and post-Master’s Nurse Midwifery DNP. The program is designed to prepare Nurse-Midwives in a Christian environment.

The BSN to Nurse Midwifery DNP program is an 8 semester, 75 credit hour course of study. Graduates will be prepared to sit for the national certification exam offered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).

The post-Master’s NM DNP is a 54 credit hour program. Various options are available for Master’s prepared Advanced Practice Nurses who are Nurse Practitioners and desire Nurse-Midwifery education. Full-time and part-time courses of study are offered.

All applicants to the Nurse-Midwifery DNP program must have a Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 or higher GPA. They must have a current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Texas. The GRE is required, and must have been taken in the last 5 years if the student’s nursing GPA is less than 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Texas Christian University
Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences

Texas Christian University’s Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences offers an online post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

There are two DNP tracks available at TCU:

  • Advanced Practice Nursing
  • Nursing Administration

The TCU Doctor of Nursing Practice program requires 30 credit hours of coursework for completion. It can be completed in 2 years of full-time study. It can also be completed on a part-time study basis.

Applicants to the Advanced Practice Nursing track are required to hold a Master’s degree. They must be certified in an APN specialty and licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse-Midwife, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).

Applicants to the Nursing Administration track must hold a Master’s degree and a current RN license in the state where their practices will be performed.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
School of Nursing

Texas Tech University’s School of Nursing offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. TTU’s program is designed for working nurses who are Master’s prepared.

The TTU DNP program requires 45 credit hours over six semesters. Students pick from two possible tracks:

  • Advanced Practice Nursing
  • Executive Leadership

Classes are taught using a blended format utilizing both online courses and three executive sessions per semester lasting 3-4 days each.

Applicants must have a Master of Science degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a nationally (CCNE or NLNAC) accredited nursing program. Candidates must have a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must have an unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the US.

Those applying for the Advanced Practice Nursing track must be nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner and have at least one year of experience working as a NP. They must also be approved by a state Board of Nurse Examiners to practice as an NP and have BLS certification.

Those applying for the Executive Leadership track must have at least one year’s experience in a nursing leadership role.

Texas Woman’s University
College of Nursing

The College of Nursing at Texas Woman’s University offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice program to prepare Nurse Practitioners and Certified Nurse-Midwives as expert clinicians in acute and primary care settings.

Applicants to TWU’s DNP program must hold a Master’s degree with a Nursing major from a nationally accredited program with a 3.5 or higher graduate GPA or an acceptable score on the GRE or MAT.

Prospective students must also be licensed in the US as a registered nurse. They must also be certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse-Midwife and must be eligible for recognition as an APRN in Texas.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program offered by University of Texas Arlington’s College of Nursing is a post-Master’s DNP program which prepares Nurse Practitioners to recognize and solve healthcare problems using evidence-based practice.

The program 36 credit hour program includes 33 hours of core classes and 3 hours of electives. It is taught in a blended format utilizing online, classroom, and intensive/immersion delivery formats.

University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
School of Nursing

The School of Nursing at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Students in the post-Master’s DNP program can choose from three tracks depending on their specialty:

  • Post-MSN Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist Track
  • Post-MSN Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Track
  • Post-MSN Nurse Executive Track

Students can enroll in the program on both a part-time or full-time basis. Students can typically complete the program in five to eight semesters. Blocks of intensive instruction are scheduled on campus two days (Thursday and Friday only) each month with the remaining course work delivered online.

Applicants to the DNP program must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program. They should also have a Master’s degree or post-Master’s certificate as an Advanced Practice Nurse (CNS, NP, or CRNA) or Nurse Leader (or equivalent) from a nationally accredited program with a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Advanced Practice Nurse applicants must also be nationally certified in their respective advanced practice role and be eligible or approved to practice as an APRN by the Texas Board of Nursing.

School of Nursing

University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is the oldest nursing school in the Southwest. Their School of Nursing offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. UTMB’s MSN to DNP program requires 38-42 credit hours for completion.

Applicants to the MSN to DNP program must hold a Master of Science in Nursing degree from nationally accredited program with a GPA of at least 3.0 (3.5 is preferred). The must have a current, valid, and unencumbered license as an RN and be eligible for Advanced Practice Nurse status with prescriptive authority. Candidates must be also be eligible for national certification as a Nurse Practitioner with one of the following specialty roles:
