DNP Programs in Nebraska (NE)

The Cornhusker State does not provide a lot of options if you are looking for colleges and universities offering nationally accredited Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. However, the number of DNP degree offering schools is somewhat proportional to the Nebraska’s population since it is one of the least populated states in the US.

Creighton University
School of Nursing

Creighton University’s School of Nursing is the first institution in the state of Nebraska to offer a nationally accredited Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program. The degree program is designed for nurses interested in advanced practice nursing or leadership roles in nursing. Creighton’s School of Nursing offers both post-baccalaureate BSN to DNP and post-master’s MSN to DNP pathways to prospective students.

The BSN to DNP program obviously requires that all applicants possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Students entering the program can choose between several Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) tracks, a Clinical Systems Administration track, and an Advanced Public Health/Global Health Nursing track.

The APRN tracks available to BSN-to-DNP students include several Nurse Practitioner tracks and several Clinical Nurse Specialist tracks:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
  • Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Neonatal Nurse Specialist
  • Pediatric Nurse Specialist

The MSN to DNP program requires that all prospective students possess a Master of Science in Nursing. Again, students entering this program also have a choice between several APRN tracks, a Clinical Systems Administration track, and an Advanced Public Health/Global Health track. The APRN tracks within the MSN-to-DNP pathway not only includes Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist tracks, but also tracks for Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

BSN to DNP and MSN to DNP students in the Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist programs can choose from Cardiology, Oncology, and Gerontology specializations.
