Ball State University
School of Nursing

Ball State University’s offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree through their School of Nursing. The degree is designed to prepare Registered Nurses to be experts in providing advanced practice nursing care. Students will be prepared to be leaders in nursing practice.

Ball State University’s DNP program courses are all online. Students are required to attend an on campus orientation weekend when first admitted to the program as well as one weekend per year while in the program.

The only DNP pathway is a post-Master’s program. Applicants are currently required to be an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist). They must hold a Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally (NLNAC or CCNE) accredited program with a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. Prospective students must also have an unencumbered RN license in the state where they practice and have recent clinical nursing experience.

Indiana State University
College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services

Indiana State University’s College of Nursing , Health, and Human Services offers a post-Master’s pathway to a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.

The DNP program requires 85 post-Baccalaureate graduate credit hours and 1,200 supervised clinical hours. Students entering the program can apply up to 48 credit hours and 700 clinical hours from their Master’s program towards their DNP degree requirements. A minimum of 39 credit hours of course work must be completed at Indiana State University.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited school of nursing preparing Family Nurse Practitioners with a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Prospective students must be nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. They must also hold an unencumbered RN and APRN licence in the state of practice.

Indiana University – Purdue University (Indianapolis)
School of Nursing

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program offered at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis’ School of Nursing is a post-Master’s DNP program. It is designed to prepare clinical practice experts to lead in a variety of complex health care settings.

The program requires 37 credit hours of course work. Courses are offered primarily online with limited on campus requirements. They offer the program on both a full-time and part-time basis.

Applicants must have a Master of Science in Nursing from a CCNE or NLNAC accredited program with a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Prospective students must hold an unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the state of practice.

Purdue University
School of Nursing

Purdue University’s School of nursing offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program with multiple pathways. They offer a post-Bachelor’s pathway and a post-Master’s pathway. They also offer another pathway for students already enrolled in their MSN program.

Applicants to the post-Bachelor’s DNP program will earn their Master of Science in Nursing degree as part of the DNP program. As such, they will choose either:

  • the MSN with Adult Nurse Practitioner Specialization or
  • the MSN with Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Specialization.

Prospective students need to have graduated from an accredited baccalaureate program in nursing with a minimum undergarduate nursing cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants to this pathway will also be required to take the GRE within the last 5 years. They must also have an RN license in Indiana.

Applicants to the post-Masters pathway have many of the same requirements as above. They must have a minimum graduate nursing sumulative GPA of 3.0. Students who currently hold a MSN degree do not have to take the GRE.

University of Southern Indiana
College of Nursing & Health Professions

University of Southern Indiana’s College of Nursing & Health Professions offers a post-Masters pathway to there Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The full-time plan of study takes two years to complete. The part-time plan of study takes three years.

The USI DNP program offers two areas of concentration:

  • Advanced Practice and Systems
  • Organizational Leadership

The program is taught primarily online using technologies like the Blackboard course management system and live chat. Students are required to attend two 3-day intensives on campus in August and April each year.

Applicants for USI’s DNP program must have a Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution with a graduate GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They must also possess an unencumbered RN license.

Valparaiso University
College of Nursing

Valparaiso University’s College of Nursing offers both a BSN to DNP pathway and MSN to DNP pathway in which to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.

The BSN to DNP pathway requires applicants to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution with a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale. The prospective student must either hold an unencumbered Indiana RN license or be eligible for RN licensure in Indiana.

The MSN to DNP pathway requires applicants to possess a Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited university with a 3.25 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale. They must be certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. They must hold an unencumbered RN license in Indiana or be eligible to obtain an RN license in Indiana.
