There are several nationally accredited colleges and universities offering a Doctor of Nursing Practice programs in New Jersey. There are many other options available online as well as in the neighboring state of New York.

Fairleigh Dickinson University
The Henry P. Becton School of Nursing and Allied Health

The Henry P. Becton School of Nursing and Allied Health at Fairleigh Dickinson University offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program designed to prepare nurses for the highest level of clinical expert practice.

The program is a 36 credit hour post-Master’s DNP program offering two specialization tracks:

  • Clinical Leadership
  • Organizational Leadership>/li>

The curriculum requires students to take 24 credit hours of core courses and 12 credit hours of specialty focused courses.

The program is delivered using an Executive model. It is offered on both a full-time basis (9 credit hours per semester) and part-time basis (6 credit hours per semester).

Applicants to the DNP program must hold a Master’s degree in Nursing with an advanced practice nursing specialty role from a nationally (CCNE or NLNAC) accredited program. Candidates must be licensed as both an RN and an Advanced Practice Nurse.

Monmouth University
Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies

Monmouth University’s Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies offers a post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program.

The program requires 36 credit hours for completion. It is a part-time program offered in a blended format utilizing online course work plus on-campus weekend sessions several times per semester. The program requires two years (six semesters) to complete.

Applicants must hold a Master of Science in Nursing from a nationally accredited program with a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.2 or higher. Candidates must be licensed as an RN and be nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Administrator.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
Collge of Nursing

The College of Nursing at Rutgers offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice program with two entry pathways: A BSN to DNP pathway and a post-Master’s DNP pathway. Regardless of the pathway used to enter the program, students are offered two tracks:

  • Clinical Practice Focus
  • Leadership Practice Focus

All DNP programs at Rutgers are offered in a blended format combining online and on campus learning experiences.

Rutgers’ BSN to DNP Clinical Focus program is designed to prepare Advanced Practice Nurses. Typically the program requires three years of full-time study (three courses or 9 credits per semester) or five years of part-time study (two courses or 6 credits per semester).

Students in the program will be prepared in one of the following advanced practice specialty roles:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult and Aged Nurse Practitioner

Students in the Rutgers’ post-Masters Clinical Focus DNP program build on their Master’s curriculum to prepare them for the highest level of advanced practice nursing. Those in the program typically earn their degree within 1.5 years of study as a full-time student or 2.5 years as a part-time student.

Rutgers also offers a Leadership (non-clinical) Focus DNP program. Their BSN to DNP Leadership Focus program requires 60 credit hours for completion. The post-Master’s Leadership Focus program requires 39 credit hours for completion.

Applicants to either of the post-BSN programs must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher. Students without a 3.4 or higher graduate GPA will be required to take the GRE. Candidates must be licensed as an RN in New Jersey.

Applicants to the post-Master’s programs must hold both a Bachelor’s in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing from nationally accredited programs. Their cumulative graduate GPA must be at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale. Candidates must be licensed in New Jersey as a registered nurse.

Seton Hall University
College of Nursing

The College of Nursing at Seton Hall University offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program. There are two entry pathways: a post-Master’s pathway for students who have completed an MSN in Advanced Practice Nursing or Health Systems Administration as well as a BSN to DNP pathway. The post-Master’s DNP program requires 36-46 hours for completion. The BSN to DNP program requires 72 credit hours.

Applicants to the program must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing from a nationally (CCNE or NLNAC) accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Candidates must also have taken the GRE within the last 5 years. Prospective students must be licensed as a registered nurse.

University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
School of Nursing

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program offered by the School of Nursing at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey is a post-Master’s DNP program. The program offers students two different tracks: the direct care track and the indirect care track.

The 40 credit hour program can be completed in six semesters (two years) of full-time study. The DNP program is offered in an Executive format to allow nurses to continue work. Students meet one weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) each month.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing from nationally (CCNE or NLNAC) accredited programs. Those applying to the direct care track, candidates must be nationally certified in an advanced practice nursing specialty role. If applying to the indirect care track, candidates must hold an MSN or Master’s degree in a relevant health care administration specialty. Those holding other non-nursing master’s will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may require additional course work. Prospective students must have a minimum 3.4 GPA on all undergraduate and graduate work. They must also hold a current, unencumbered license as an RN.
