Samford University
Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing

The Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing at Samford offers several options for those pursuing their DNP. They offer a DNP Administration trafck and a DNP Advanced Practice track. Both tracks are also offered with 3 different Education Role Concentrations. They offer a 12 month accelerated DNP program for those students who can attend school full-time as well as a 24 month part-time program for those with demanding lifestyles who can only attend part-time.

Samford’s doctoral nursing program is an MSN to DNP degree program. It generally requires a Master of Science in Nursing in the area of advanced practice (nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, nurse midwife, or administrator) from a National League for Nursing (NLN) or Commision of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited program . However, they do consider applicants with unique creditials on a case-by-case basis. All applicants must posses an unencumbered license as a registered nurse.

All DNP courses are online. However, students are required to be on campus one time each semester. No GRE or MAT is required for admission.

The University of Alabama
Capstone College of Nursing

The DNP doctoral degree program offered by University of Alabama’s Capston College of Nursing is a joint program offered in conjuction with University of Alabama in Huntsville’s College of Nursing and University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Nursing. The degree program offered to nurses with a specialized advance practice nursing master’s degree.

Besides meeting the general graduate program requirements, applicants to the Capstone College of Nursing are required to possess a Master of Science in Nursing for entrance into the program. Generally, students are required to have a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 system. But students with a 900+ score on the GRE or 40th percentile score on the MAT will can be admitted conditionally if they have a 2.5 overall GPA. Applicants must also possess an unencumbered RN license somewhere within the US.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville
College of Nursing

The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program offered by The University of Alabama in Huntsville’s College of Nursing program is a joint program offered in conjunction with The University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing and University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Nursing. The program is a post-Master’s DNP program.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in advance practice nursing from an accredited institution with one of the following specializations:

  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Nurse Midwifery
  • Nurse Administration

Prospective students holding a masters degree in nursing without an advanced practice specialization are may still be admitted to the program, but may be required to enroll in additional coursework to meet advanced practice requirements. Applicants must also hold an unencumbered license as a registered and be certified in an advanced specialty.

Troy University
School of Nursing

The Troy University School of Nursing offers both full-time and part-tile Doctor of Nursing Practice degree programs. The availalbe DNP programs include a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track.

Troy University offers both a BSN to DNP and MSN to DNP program. Applicants are only admitted under unconditional admission status. Applicants must have a BSN or MSN degree from a nationally accredited (NLNAC or CCNE) program. A 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) is required. A score of 850+ on the GRE is required of those applying for the post-baccalaureate program. All post-MSN applicants must have an advanced practice nursing CNS or FNP certification from a nationally recognized credentialling program or be eligible to take such a certification exam.

University of Alabama at Birmingham
School of Nursing

This DNP program is a joint program between the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Nursing and School of Health Professions, the College of Nursing at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama. Students can choose either a part-time or full-time schedule.

To be considered, applicants should possess a master’s degree in some area of advanced practice nursing like Nurse Anesthetist, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Practitioner, or Nursing Administrator from a regionally accredited school. They should be certified as an Advanced Practic Nurse (if applicable) and be licensed as both a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or show that they are eligible to be licensed for both in the state in which they plan to practice. Students must possess a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

College of Nursing

The University of South Alabama’s College of Nursing offers a BSN to DNP program, a “Traditional” post-Master’s DNP track, and an MSN to DNP program. All courses for the programs are completed online with clinical/residency requirements completed in your region with an approved mentor.

Both the BSN to DNP and MSN to DNP programs offer a variety of tracks including:

Those students entering the MSN to DNP program must have a Master of Science in Nursing degree specializing in one of the these advanced practice nursing areas: Nurse Practitioner, Executive Nursing Administration, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Public Health Nursing Administration.

Those who hold an MSN not in an advanced practice nursing area or a BSN from an accredited school can apply to the BSN to DNP program.

Regardless of the track to which they are applying, all applicants most possess an unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the US.
