DNP Programs in Kansas (KS)

University of Kansas
School of Nursing
The University of Kansas’ School of Nursing offers post-BSN and post-MSN tracks to prepare advanced practice nurses for the highest level of nursing practice and leadership roles.
Students in the post-BSN program are encouraged to earn their Master of Science in Nursing degree as part of their program; however, they also have the option of simply earning the DNP degree. The following majors are offered to BSN to DNP students:
- Advanced Practice Major
- Leadership Major
Within the Advanced Practic Major, students will choose from one of the following specializations:
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
- Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner
- Adult/Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Nurse Midwife
Within the Leadership Major, students will choose from one of the following specializations:
- Public Health
- Healthcare Informatics
- Clinical Research Management
- Organizational Leadership
Entry into the BSN to DNP program requires the student to have completed their Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a nationally accredited program with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (though preference is given to those w/ a 3.5 GPA in their BSN program).
The post-MS program requires students to have earned a Master of Science in Nursing or Nurse Anesthesia from a nationally accredited program. Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, and Nurse Anesthesia tracks all require national certification. Prospective students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in their Master’s program (and preference is given to those students with a 3.25 or better GPA in their Master’s program).

Wichita State University
School of Nursing
Wichita State University’s School of Nursing was developed to try to help meet demand for nurses skilled in leadership and advanced practice. Graduates of the DNP program are prepared for advanced nursing practice and leadership roles as a Nurse Practitioner, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, or a nurse eduator.
The program at Witchita State University was first approved by the Kansas Board of Regents in 2007. The first DNP degrees were awared in December, 2009.
The BSN-to-DNP applicant can choose from the following specializations:
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
- Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
The post-Master’s program is designed for nationally certifed APNs.
