DNP Programs in District of Columbia (DC)

If you are looking for a Doctor of Nursing Practice program in our nation’s capital then look no more. The District of Columbia does have a couple of colleges and universities offering DNP programs for nurses seeking to advance their professional career.

The Catholic University of America
School of Nursing

The Catholic University of America’s School of Nursing offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program designed to prepare nurses in advance nursing practice specializations as well as for leadership positions in the nursing and healthcare profession. CUA offers two pathways to a DNP degree: a BSN to DNP pathway and an MSN to DNP program.

Applicants to the BSN to DNP must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program. A 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale is required from the BSN program. The prospective student must have an unencumbered RN license from at least one state. Acceptable scores on the GRE are also required.

Applicants to the MSN to DNP program have similar requirements. They must possess a Master of Science in Nursing degree from an program accredited by the NLNAC and CCNE with a 3.5 GPA within that degree program. The applicant must have an unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse as well as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (if applicable). The GRE must have been taken within the last 5 years with acceptable scores.

George Washington University
School of Nursing

The George Washington University’s School of Nursing offers two pathways for students to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. They offer a post-baccalaureate and an MSN to DNP pathway.

The post-baccalaureate program requires that prospective students possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program. Registered Nurses with a Bachelor’s degree in some other nursing related field can also accepted if a bridge course is taken. The school requires a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA. The applicant must also have an unencumbered RN license.

The MSN to DNP program at GWU requires a Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited program of nursing. They must have a 3.3 cumulative GPA in either:

  • a Nurse Practitioner specialization (nationally certified) or
  • a Nursing Leadership and Management program or Nursing Administration program.

GWU does not require the GRE to be accepted into the program.

While the programs offered a The George Washington University is a distance learning program, there are some on campus requirements. Students must be on campus for 2-3 days at the time on three different occasions: for orientation, for project preparation, and for project presentation.
