Idaho Nurses Association
The Idaho Nurses Association (INA) is the state’s constituent member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), representing all Registered Nurses (RN) in Idaho. All RNs can be members regardless of specialty areas or practice settings.
The organization was established on March 29, 1909. Originally its name was the Idaho State Association of Graduate Nurses.
In 1911, the Idaho Bill for State Registration of Graduate Nurses passed as a result of lobbying by the association to fill the need for an organization to regulate the examination and registration of nurses. The Idaho Board of Nurse Examiners (later renamed Idaho Board of Nursing) was formed as a result of the legislation.
In 1930 the association changed its name to Idaho Nurses Association to conform with the ANA’s rules.
The organization’s mission is as follows:
“The Idaho Nurses Association (INA) is the only professional organization representing all registered nurses (RNs) in Idaho. The INA advances the nursing profession by promoting professional development of nurses, fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the safety and well-being of nurses in the workplace, and by advocating on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.”
