Connecticut Nurses’ Association

Connecticut’s constituent member of the American Nurses Association (ANA) is the Connecticut Nurses’ Association (CNA). This is the largest nurses association in Connecticut. It was established in 1904 to represent all registered nurses in the state.

The organization’s mission is:

“The Connecticut Nurses’ Association speaks with a unified voice for nurses across all specialties, in all forums. The Association exerts its organized influence on education, legislation, and compensation to protect and advance the practice of nursing and the health of the people in CT. We connect our members to each other and to our collective passion, power and purpose.”

CNA Membership

There are many reasons that RNs should join CNA. The organization advocates on behalf of all RNs in Connecticut as well as patients. They lobby for improvements in the state’s health care system as well as nursing practice.

The organization provides members with a great way to network with nurses from all practice areas and all settings. They can gain leadership skills by serving on various committees or task forces as well as by holding elected offices within CNA and the ANA.

There are many educational opportunities available to members of the Connecticut Nurses Association as well. The organization is responsible for approving nursing-related activities for continuing ed credit. They offer free and discounted continuing education opportunities to members. And they publish a quarterly newsletter called the Connecticut Nursing News to keep the states licensed RNs informed.

Other benefits include various discounts on products and services. Members are also eligible for other special benefits like assistance with medical and dental bills, wellness programs, and legal consultation. They also offer scholarships and grants.
