Arizona Nurses Association
Arizona’s constituent member of the American Nurses Association (ANA) is the Arizona Nurses Association (AzNA). The organization has been representing Registered Nurses and the nursing profession in general since being established in 1919.
AzNA has a simple mission statement. It reads:
“To Advance and Promote Professional Nursing in Arizona”
The organization is has several chapters based on both geographical region and specialty. The geographically-based chapters are:
- Greater Phoenix
- Tuscon
- Verde Valley Northern Arizona
- Territorial/Prescott
- Rio Colorado, Yuma
- East Valley
The specialty chapters of AzNA are:
- Border Nurses/Frontera Enfermeras
- Nurse Educator
- Nurse Practitioners
- Nursing Informatics
- School Nurse
Members are not required to join any chapter. They can simply be a member of the state-wide organization. But they can, if they want, join one or even multiple chapters. For example, one may wish to join their corresponding geographical chapter based on the location where they practice as well as join a specialty chapter.
Membership in AzNA
Members of AzNA enjoy many benefits. Nurses in the organization can influence Arizona policy making in regards to health care. They have access to free and discounted continuing education. The organization offers workshops and conferences where attendees can learn about a wide range of topics and network with other nurses from their chapter(s) as well as from across the state.
The American Nurses Association membership provides the added benefits of that organization, many of which are similar to those of AzNA only at the national level. You can influence nation legislation regarding health care and the nursing profession with your vote in ANA.
